a. Our Aquaculture Department is the sole Department located nearby the waterfront area among all the universities and colleges of technical and vocational education system in the whole country. Based on the learning of fine coastal habitat and diversified marine life of Penghu’s territorial waters, it is essential that we bear the burdens of marine education and the advancement and development of mariculture in Taiwan.

b. Apart from recruiting nine professors and constructing a single building of three-story high, we also install and map out all kinds of indoor and outdoor aquariums, cement ponds, and FRP barrel zones which are used as food operating spaces for fish and aquatic organisms breeding and propagation. In 2015, we add five HDPE culture ponds of 200 tons that can be applied to mass production teachings with larger scales, and the students are therefore being offered a more complete learning environment.

c. Aside from arranging the course of “aquatic farm attachment training” six semesters in a row that allows students to gain practical experience in on-site culture, we also ask students to attend the course of “practice and project” three semesters in a row, training student for developing the competency of problem-discovering, problem-exploring, and problem-solving. And there is the two-month “internship” which brings students to the understanding towards the current industrial situation.

 

The professional curriculum covers two major fields of breeding and propagation of saltwater fish, shrimp, cowry, and algae plus sustainable use of marine ecological resources. The subjects of biology, analysis of water quality, introduction to ichthyology, vertebrate zoology, aquatic botany, introduction to aquaculture, fish disease (aquarium pathology), and lab courses/practical trainings are included. As for the subjects like marine ecology and introduction to marine biodiversity, they are categorized into the curriculum of sustainable use.

 

　Further Studies:attain admission through registration of entrance examination held by graduate schools (majors relevant to the fields of fishery and aquatic products, marine biology, etc.) at each domestic or overseas college and university for pursing a higher education.
