 Established in 1991, Penghu Campus of National GaoXiong Marine Junior College is the predecessor of National Penghu University of Science and Technology that formally comes off and shifts into National Penghu Marine Junior College in 1995. In the year of 2000, it is upgraded to National Penghu Institute and officially reorganized into a university of science and technology. Being the first and one-and-only university of science and technology in outlying island form on Taiwan Strait, our university is composed of 3 schools including college of Humanities and Management, college of Tourism and Leisure, and college of Marine Resources and Engineering, with 12 departments, 5 graduate institutes, and a general education center. Our goal is to culture all kinds of talents and experts in the fields of marine fishery, tourism and leisure, technology, and management for our country, offering not only local opportunities of personnel training which can reduce education divide between Penghu County and Island of Taiwan but also direct contributions in promoting regional industrial development, economic and cultural growth.

 

1991
Established Kaohsiung Oceanic Studies, Penghu Division faculties for aquaculture and shipping and logistics management.

1992
Added the two-year junior college program (night school) for shipping and logistics management.

1993
Added the two-year junior college program (night school) for tourism and aquaculture. Construction of the Teaching Administrative building competed.

1994
Added the information management and telecommunications engineering faculties.

1995
Established the independent National Penghu University of Marine Management.

1998
Added the information engineering faculty. Construction of the Laboratory Building competed.

1999
Tourism business faculty shut down. Established the faculties of leisure management, hospitality management, and applied foreign language.

2000
Revamped as the National Penghu Institution of Science and Technology. Construction of the Library completed.

2002
Added the tourism faculty, shipping and logistics management faculty, electronic engineering faculty, and food sciences faculty.

2003
Added the aquaculture faculty, two-year technical program (division of continuing education) for shipping management, and two-year junior college program (night school) for leisure management.

2004
Added marine sports and recreation faculty, leisure management, and information management faculty four-year technical program (division of continuing education). Terminated the two-year junior college program (night school) enrolment for aquaculture, shipping management, and leisure management. Construction of the sports stadium and student activity center completed and ready for use.

2005
Upgraded to National Penghu University of Science and Technology. Added the service management graduate school and the two-year junior college program (night school) for aquaculture. Terminated the two-year technical program (division of continuing education) for aquaculture. Renamed the electronic engineering faculty to electrical engineering and the shipping and logistics management faculty to marketing and logistics management.

2006
Terminated enrolment for the tourism faculty and merged with the leisure management faculty to form the leisure and tourism management faculty while the leisure, tourism, and marine sports and management faculties were merged and renamed the marine sports and recreation faculty. Added the ocean creative industry graduate school. Terminated enrolment for the two-year technical program (division of continuing education) for shipping management.

2007
Added the tourism and leisure management graduate school. Construction completed for the teaching facility and ready for use.

2008
Added the electronic information graduate school, service operations management graduate school special in-service class, and food sciences graduate school.

2009
Added the four-year technical program for information management. The tourism and leisure faculty which had originally enrolled students into the respective tourism and leisure faculties, accepted enrolments for the two programs as one faculty.

2011
The ocean creative industry graduate school was renamed the marine resources and breeding graduate school.

2012
Added the tourism and leisure management in-service master’s program. Construction of the marine technology facility completed and ready for use.

2013
In June, graduation of the four-year technical program of the information management. The marine resources and breeding graduate school merged with the aquaculture faculty to form the aquaculture master’s class while the food sciences graduate school merged with the food sciences faculty to form the food sciences faculty master’s class.

2014
Terminated enrolment for the two-year junior college program (night school) for aquaculture.

2015
In June, graduation of the 2nd year night school cohort of aquaculture. The service operations management graduate school and marketing and logistics management faculty merged to form the marketing and logistics management faculty service management master’s class. The tourism and leisure management graduate school merged with the tourism and leisure faculty to form the tourism and leisure faculty master’s class. The electronic information graduate school and the electrical engineering faculty merged to form the electrical engineering faculty master’s class in electronic information.

2016
The marine sports and recreation faculty renamed marine recreation.
